Should I purchase any school supplies for my child?

Your child will need a book bag. The book bag must fit into the classroom cubby (approx. 12” x 12”). Rolling book bags are not practical for our students, as the children will not have heavy loads to carry. Also, the rolling book bags will not fit into the cubby space. Be sure to put your child’s first and last name on it.

You will be given an opportunity to pay a $45.00 Supply Donation. With this donation Kinchafoonee Primary School will furnish all other school supplies (writing paper, pencils, crayons, glue, paint, art paper, computer supplies and much more) your child will need. No other school supplies will be required if you choose to pay the Supply Donation. If you wish to, you may send additional pencils and crayons to school later on in the year. This also includes your child's school t-shirt and your family's PTO membership!

Is there a specified dress code that I should know about?

Our students should wear comfortable clothes for play. Running shoes with socks are preferable for daily Physical Education classes and outside play at Recess. The clothes you choose should be ones that your child can handle independently. Your child should be able to easily fasten and unfasten all articles of clothing. Please do not send your child to school with inappropriate, sarcastic, or demeaning comments written on their clothing. This can be very distracting to the other children.

  • Please note that your child’s first and last name should be inside all ‘outerwear’ items (ex. jackets, sweaters, coats, gloves, sweatshirts). Any layers that your child might remove must have a name in it.
  • When our girls wear dresses, they need to wear thin shorts under them.
  • Flip-flops, high heels, and Crocs should not be worn to school. If your child wears sandals, they must have a backstrap. Our school nurse reports lots of accidents with these types of shoes. See the School Handbook for just a few clothing restrictions.

What is the cost of a school lunch and how is this money handled?

The regular cost of school lunch is $2.75 per day. This is the current rate but is subject to change. A form will be available to apply for free or reduced lunch if you qualify. All lunch money must be sent to school in an envelope marked with your child’s name and ID number. The school will provide this envelope, but if it is lost just use what you have at home. You may pay by the day, week, month, etc. If your child is out of school or brings a lunch you will be credited for that day. All checks for meals must be made out to the Lee County School Food Services. If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s account, refer these to the Food Services Personnel. (Telephone Food Services 903-2205)

May my child eat breakfast at school?

Yes. The cost of breakfast is $1.75 per day. This must be paid in advance. Breakfast money can be included in the lunch money with one check written to Lee County School Food Service.

When will my child eat breakfast?

If your child rides a bus to school, he will go to the cafeteria and eat upon arrival. If you will be bringing your child he must arrive on or before 8:05 A.M. to be served. Your child should go directly to the cafeteria upon arrival.

What are the school hours?

School begins at 8:10 A.M. with dismissal beginning at 2:50 P.M.  No students are allowed in the building before 7:20 A.M.  Children arriving after 8:10 will be marked tardy and parents will be required to come into the office with the child to sign in.

When may I talk with my child’s teacher?

An important time with your child’s teacher will be the night of Orientation. This will be the perfect time for all parents to come for a meeting to discuss procedures, curriculum, discipline, etc. You will be given an opportunity to ask questions or express concerns you may have. Orientation dates and times are listed on the KPS home page. Please plan in advance for childcare. Orientation is for parents only.

Teachers cannot interrupt their classroom instruction to talk to you on a drop-in basis; however, teachers do feel that communication with parents is very important. If you need to talk with your child’s teacher, please write her a note or call the school and leave a message. She will return your call as soon as possible. You may also schedule conference times to talk with your child’s teacher face-to-face. Teachers schedule conferences with every parent during the school year.

What are some ways that I may help my child be prepared for Kindergarten?
  • Make sure to read at home with your child. Get them used to sitting still and listening to stories.
  • Help them to learn their phone number and address if they do not already know it.
  • Make sure that your child can tie his/her shoes.
  • Work with them on listening to and following simple one and two-step directions.
  • Help them with left and right, and other positional words.
  • Review letters and sounds, numbers, and color words.
  • Practice writing their name in Ball and Stick handwriting with a capital letter at the beginning, and lowercase letters for the rest.
  • Please review counting to 30 as well as simple addition and subtraction sentences.

When I visit the school, what is the procedure?

Everyone must come in the front door of the school and go into the office to obtain a visitor’s pass. This is an important safety precaution and applies to everyone entering our school – NO EXCEPTIONS.
